Music
in Schools Today offers courses in world music and music used as
therapeutic intervention, with continuing education credits from
San Francisco State University. We also offer a variety of training
workshops for artists and music therapists.
Putumayo
Music Education Director Emi Gittleman teaches how to integrate
cross-cultural music into the classroom
curriculum, and MuST Achieving Through
Music program founder Deb Bradway teaches how to use percussion
as intervention for at-risk youth.

As
part of the Achieving Through Music program funded by San Francisco's
DCYF grant, MuST held a five-day artist training workshop in August
of 2003. The first day was led by Arthur Hull of Village
Music Circles, who taught drum circle facilitation. Two other
days were led by Christine Stevens of Remo,
Inc. who taught therapeutic intervention techniques. The rest
of the time was taken in private meetings.
Dr.
Larry Scripp was in attendance to help evaluate the program.
Larry and Meg met with Deborah Mintz of the San
Francisco Opera Guild to talk about a possible collaboration
with them to produce "Othello" with residents of Juvenile
Hall. We formed a curriculum committee headed by Larry and Christine,
staffed by our local team.
