Because new instruments are expensive, their purchase and repair
are major roadblocks to starting or maintaining school music
programs. Many children cannot take instruments home to practice,
since each instrument is typically shared with several other
children. It is the children of families who cannot afford to
rent instruments who are most adversely affected.
In 1990, we recognized the need to create the Adopt
an Instrument program and have since distributed musical
instruments to over 100 Bay Area schools. Currently, donations
average hundreds of instruments annually through this program.
Because these instruments serve students for many years, each
donation represents a generous gift to many children.
Please consider donating any instruments that you may have
and are not using, or sponsoring a new instrument for a school!
