Music in Schools Today (MuST) offers advocacy assistance to parents,
educators, schools and school districts in starting or strengthening
music and arts programs in grades K-12. We help plan, organize,
fundraise and work with legislators and the media.
By tapping into community resources, supporting existing music
programs and designing new programs to meet changing school and
societal needs, Music in Schools Today is helping to develop the
authentic voice of our next generation. MuST's efforts will continue
until the arts are recognized as central to the curriculum in budget
and in law.
If you would like to start or boost a music program in your school,

Action Alert for Californians
AB 1365 (D-Karnette) requires that 20% of existing sales tax charged
in two specific retail categories pertaining to arts, crafts and
music be transferred to the California Arts Council. If this bill
becomes law, it will generate in the first year more than $30 million
for the California Arts Council and its grants programs. Register
your support for AB 1365.

$105
Million Allocation for Arts Education Makes History in California
In approving the final budget on June 30, 2006, California designated
the largest known state-funded expenditure for arts education in
public schools in California and nationwide. Schools will now receive
an estimated $105 million in ongoing funding for arts education
(estimated at $17-18 per student), in addition to a one-time allocation
of $500 million for arts, music, and physical education equipment.
This funding stream will go to every school district statewide,
slowing an alarming trend of cuts for arts and music in public schools.

Alliance for Arts Education website.
